Jet Jaguar in Godzilla: Unleashed

Jet Jaguar 2

Jet Jaguar

Jet Jaguar is a mech who is created by a scientist named Goro for unknown reasons. He first appears in the 1973 film, Godzilla vs. Megalon, which was aimed at kids. The film was originally going to be called Jet Jaguar vs. Megalon, having Jet Jaguar as the main star, but Toho decided Godzilla would have more marquee value. At the end of Godzilla vs. Megalon, Jet Jaguar gets his own brief theme song, performed by Masato Shimon. Jet Jaguar was the result of a contest Toho held in the early '70s to come up with a new superhero, which was all the rage at the time. The result was Jet Jaguar, originally known as Red Alone. He resembled Ultraman, Spectreman, and Mazinger Z (who were very popular at the time.)

History[]

Jet Jaguar first appears in Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973), which featured Godzilla, Gigan, Megalon, and Jet Jaguar. At the time, Godzilla movies were aimed at children (All Monsters Attack, Godzilla vs. Hedorah, and Godzilla vs. Gigan.) He is able to alter his own size, fly, and communicate with other kaiju. In the film, he fights Megalon while Godzilla fights Gigan. The most famous part is when Jet Jaguar grabs Megalon, and Godzilla does a flying-drop kick, presumably doing so by keeping his tail on the ground while the rest of his body is in the air. Jet Jaguar also threw Gigan into the air to help Godzilla, causing Gigan to retreat. Jet Jaguar has never appeared in any other films since, although he did appear in video games and the anime series Godzilla: Singular Point.

Video Game Appearance[]

Jet Jaguar was originally going to be a playable kaiju in Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee (2002), but he was scrapped due to issues of him looking to similar to Ultraman. 2 years later, he finally appears in Godzilla: Save the Earth (2004). He even appears in Godzilla: Unleashed (2007), and he was in the Global Defense Force (GDF) faction. In Godzilla: Save the Earth, he was able to shoot a short green ray out of his arms, while in Godzilla: Unleashed, he is able to shoot a colorful ray from his hands. He also appears as a boss in Godzilla Unleashed: Double Smash.
