This version of King Kong first appears in King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) and later appears in King Kong Escapes (1967) in which he fights Mechani-Kong. In King Kong vs. Godzilla, he is worshipped as a god on Farou Island. He is captured and brought to Japan where it rampages until it fights Godzilla. After the fight, they both drop into the ocean, and King Kong swims back to Farou Island. In King Kong Escapes, he fights a dinosaur called Gorosaurus, and a robot replica of himself called Mechani-Kong, who is able to hypnotize other kaiju.

Differences from the original Kong[]

The original Kong was about 25 ft. tall and was worshipped as a god in Skull Island, while the Toho Kong was about 65-147 ft. tall (20-45 meters) and was worshipped as a god on Farou Island. Skull Island's inhabitants included a large variety of dinosaurs, as well as natives, while Farou Island only had natives. The natives of Farou Island's main fruit is a special type of berry, which can put Toho Kong to sleep. He later wakes up, and sees a giant octopus called Oodako, trying to steal the berries. Kong defeats Oodako, and then falls to sleep again. The original Kong's roar is a mixture of multiple animals, while Toho Kong's roar is just a growl, then a strange sound. He can also get power from electricity.

Other appearances and canceled appearances[]

Toho Kong was going to appear in Godzilla: Unleashed, but was scrapped due to legal issues, but he managed to appear in Godzilla Unleashed: Double Smash. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) was originally going to be a remake of King Kong vs. Godzilla, called Godzilla vs. King Kong, but was scrapped, then it was going to be intended as Godzilla vs. Mechani-Kong, but that idea was also scrapped. The project finally went to Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. After King Kong vs. Godzilla, a sequel was going to be made called Continuation: King Kong vs. Godzilla, but was scrapped and replaced by Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964). In Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster (1966), Godzilla's role was originally intended for King Kong, but Toho decided Godzilla would have more marquee value.
